Accessing Consumer Reports hide
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) regulates all information pertaining to the request and processing of background checks. The FCRA is not limited to credit reports, but instead relates to all information provided by a Consumer Reporting Agency, like HireRight, to employers like you. Employers must comply with the requirements of the FCRA as well as all applicable state and local laws and regulations. You are responsible for providing certain disclosures regarding the background check to your candidates and employees, and must certify to HireRight that you have obtained their consent prior to requesting a background check. You must also provide certain documents, and follow required procedures, such as Pre-Adverse Notices, Adverse Notices, and conduct individualized assessments (as applicable) prior to denying or terminating employment.
Please note that HireRight cannot provide services to:
- Businesses not recognized or not in good standing with their State of registration
- Home-based businesses
- Businesses that share office space
- Individuals wishing to conduct a background check on themselves (even if for employment purposes)
- Any business requesting background checks for anything other than employment purposes
